Correos (The Spanish postal system) do not deliver directly to homes on MLN.

Correos deliver mail to Buzones (mailboxes) which are located two miles away at the entrance to Rancho De La Luz. (See Picture below) For directions, please click here to open Google Maps.

If you have recently moved to MLN, the former owner may have left you a key to the postal box. If not, please visit the community office on a Thursday Morning or email urbmijaslanueve@hotmail.es

Residents can rent a postal box at the community office for €50. This will give you a key to your individual post box. If you sell your home you can return your key and get your €50 returned, however many homeowners leave the post box key for the next resident.

If you lose your key the MLN committee does not have a spare. You would need to pay to have a new lock put onto your post box.

Please note that the boxes are small, and anything larger than an envelope is very likely to be taken to the main post office in Mijas Pueblo, and you will receive a collection slip in your mailbox. (Please note the items brought to the main post office are only kept for seven days!).

Also, note that the post box number you are issued with will most likely not match your house number, so ensure the sender knows your Buzon box number when sending you any mail.

Many residents receive deliveries (such as Amazon) direct to their homes, however, a number of residents opt to use one of the many shops/businesses in the local area that offer a postal/parcel collection service for an annual fee.

The Household waste collection and recycling points are not located within the Mijas La Nueva boundaries.

The "official" refuse collection point for Mijas La Nueva is some two miles away at the entrance to Rancho De La Luz, near the buzones/mailboxes (See Picture below) For directions, please click here to open Google Maps.

Officially this is where residents and guests should deposit any refuse. However, many residents use the collection points that are closer to MLN.

Use this useful link for from the Town Hall in Mijas. The link has a lot of information including a pick up service for unwanted large items etc.

Choosing the Right Waste Receptacle

The number of bins can be overwhelming, but it’s surprisingly simple once you get the hang of it. Here is a quick breakdown of all the bins you’re likely to encounter and what you should put in them:

The Green Bin:
This is the bin for glass. That includes beer and wine bottles, as well as empty jars and any other clean glass.

The Yellow Bin:
This is the bin for plastic lightweight containers and tins. Think butter containers and milk cartons, as well as clean and thoroughly washed tins.

The Blue Bin:
This is the bin for paper and cardboard. That includes newspapers, cardboard boxes, and shredded documents too.

The Grey Bin:
The grey container is for organic and general waste. Effectively, this is the place to put any rubbish that can’t be recycled in the other containers.

For rubbish too large to fit into the general waste receptacles, such as furniture or large home appliances, you are advised to call 616489114 which is a free service. The council will then arrange to collect and recycle these pieces on your behalf.

Textiles should be left in a clothing bank,
Note there is not a textile collection at the MLN refuse area, however if you continue around the corner to the next collection point (near the Hotel Ilunion) you will find one here.

(Note that associations accept used clothes, and kennels and catteries appreciate donations of towels and sheets).

Dangerous, Toxic, Electrical and Large Products
(eg. furniture, building waste etc.)

In these circumstances, you will need to take your waste to the local dumping point.

This is situated in La Cala De Mijas. You will find this at the crossroads between Avda. Mare Norsdrum with Av. Del Golf, on the second roundabout from La Cala, heading towards the golf course. Here you can recycle things that should not be placed in domestic waste containers, such as:

Batteries, car batteries, oil, paint, electronics, computers, light bulbs, and fluorescents. It is worth noting that there are limits to how much of these products you can take to the dump per day, so if you have particularly large volumes you may wish to divide these and distribute them in two trips. The amount of each product you can recycle per person, per day is outlined below:

Domestic oil – 25 litres per person, per day
Motor oil – 15 litres per person, per day
Car batteries – 2 per person, per day
Normal and alkaline batteries – 50 per person, per day
Button batteries – 10 per person, per day
Plastic – 1 cubic meter per person, per day
Rubble, 500 kilos per person, per day
Sheets of glass – 10 kilos per person, per day
Wood and furniture – 1 cubic metre per person, per day

The dumping point in La Cala is open Monday to Friday (8am – 8pm) and Saturdays and Sundays (8am to 6pm), giving you plenty of time to visit and recycle your unneeded or unwanted products at your own convenience.

Furniture Removal
If you telephone 648 960 541 Mijas Council have a furniture collection service.

Recycling, Made Convenient

Finally, it is worth mentioning that if you don’t have a car or simply don’t have the time to drive to the La Cala recycling centre then you can make use of the council-run ecomobile; this is a mobile dumping point that visits various urban centres to pick up dangerous domestic waste. The ecomobile visits large urban hubs on a monthly basis. To find out whether your area is on its route, check out the schedule below:

MIJAS PUEBLO:
You’ll find the ecomobille on the 4th Friday of every month, located outside the Tourist Office from 11am to 2pm

LAS LAGUNAS:
You’ll find the ecomobile on the 3rd Tuesday of every month located at El Cerrillo de Las Mentiras (old market place in Las Lagunas) from 8am to 2pm.

LA CALA DE MIJAS:
You’ll find the ecomobile on the 3rd Wednesday of each month located next to the street market from 8am to 2pm.
The Committee implemented a new card entry system in May 2019. The card system was introduced to prevent unauthorised use of the swimming pools and tennis facilities by persons who are not MLN owners or guests of those owners.

Common questions about the card entry system;

  • Each home was issued one card only. The card gives access to both swimming pools and the tennis court.

  • The card works by tapping on the screen at the swimming pools and tennis court entrance areas. (See picture above)

  • The first card was issued free of charge.

  • If you are a new owner, the previous owner should have left you the entry card. If not, please contact your solicitor and request the previous owner passes you the card, or request a new card as per the instructions below.

What if my card is lost or damaged?

  • Should a card become lost or damaged, an additional card can be purchased from the MLN office. The office is open on Thursday mornings. If you fall outside of that time, then please email urbmijaslanueva@hotmail.es and we will do our best to get your replacement depending on the committee member's availability.
Important points about replacing your card

  • We require notification from the house owner if your card is lost or damaged.

  • The former card will be cancelled before a new card is issued.

  • The new card will be issued and signed for by the house owner or their authorized collector (ID required).

  • The cost of the replacement card is 50 Euros, payable on, or before collection.

  • The Committee reserves the right to suspend the use of the card to a householder if there are instances of non-compliance with the swimming pools or tennis court rules or disruptive and anti-social behaviour.

Can I have more than one card?

Not at this time.

Unfortunately, there have been instances of cards being ‘loaned’ to individuals that are not owners or guests of owners of MLN and facilities being used against the community rules. Therefore, for the short term at least, we are not able to provide additional cards.
Septiktank ejere

With the continued battle against climate change and ever-increasing energy costs, we recognise the need to embrace renewable energy here in our Urbanisation.

We also feel that any installations must be sympathetic to our surroundings and the impact on our neighbours. We have assembled a list of the most frequently asked questions below, which may help.

Can I fit Solar Panels to my house in MLN?
Probably, but we would kindly request that you discuss your plan with the committee first.

What details should I have when discussing with the committee?
When you have had your installation survey and proposal from your contractor, the committee would like to see it and the schematic plan for the Solar Panel location.

Is there any installation guidance?

Tricky question as every installation is different. As a basic guide, we would expect the solar panels to be contained within the surface area of any actual roof. We also request that the panels are flat to the roof (not raised).

Can I install Solar Panels in my garden?
Maybe, the contractor will advise accordingly.

Do I need to discuss this with my neighbours?

Yes, we recommend you discuss with any neighbours that it will impact. Please consider neighbours that may be behind or in front of you along with your direct neighbours.

Assess your installation's impact on your neighbours and if any aesthetic change is acceptable to you both. If you need help in contacting your neighbours please let us know.

Will I need permission?

Almost certainly. Appropriate local authority permission and a building licence may be needed. It will be your responsibility to ensure you have complied. We imagine that your contractors would take care of what's necessary for you.

Are there any installation grants available?
We believe there may be, but your installer should be able to advise you.

Pam Hook - 952 59 03 43
Carob Bar - 952 48 55 38
